Powertrain Engineer

Purpose of the Role: To perform thermo-mechanical simulations and structural analyses by means of FEA, MBS and other tools to support the powertrain development programme.
Role Dimensions: An opportunity has arisen within our Powertrain Simulation Group for a talented Engineer to work in close co-operation with the Vehicle Dynamics Group, Systems Engineering and Drawing Office. The role requires a thorough understanding of structural dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanics of materials as well as a degree of familiarity with composite materials. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with use of advanced Finite Element Analysis and Multi Body Simulation (MBS) in the Automotive, Motorsport or Aeronautical Industry and will be able to work to high standards under a minimal level of supervision. Familiarity with coding in Matlab and/or Simulink/Modelica will be a distinct advantage.
Principal Accountabilities:
· To develop nonlinear FEA/MBS models and validate results against dyno/rig tests
· To efficiently employ the models developed to complete investigations and perform sensitivity studies relevant to project objectives.
· To report analysis results in a clear and structured manner
· To provide recommendations for design and/or operational improvements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
· PhD or Degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Aeronautical Engineering
· Proven in-depth knowledge of thermo-structural analysis methodologies, including classical calculations and non-linear FEA as well as Multi Body Simulations (MBS).
· Familiar with mainstream FEA packages (Hyperworks, Abaqus) and MBS tools (Simpack)
· Methodical approach to work and PC literate with excellent communication skills
